NEWS ITEMS
Activision-Blizzard. Polygon reports that the FTC has filed a lawsuit and requested both a restraining order and an injunction in federal court to block the Activsion-Blizzard/Microsoft merger. The FTC’s filing says it needs the injunction to allow the commission the “opportunity to adjudicate the merger’s legality in an administrative proceeding.”
Bottomless Bricks. The Berkshire Eagle reports that the local LEGO store has reopened on South St in Pittsfield. A grand reopening event is planned for June 24th, which will include free minifigs. They will serve as a retail store, event space, and exchange for vintage sets. Owner Erin Laundry was a contestant on Lego Masters.
Capcom Showcase. Capcom held a digital premiere to show off Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess (Xbox, PS5, Windows, and Steam), Mega Man X Dive Offline (Steam, iOS, Android), Street Fighter 6 (Xbox, PS, Steam), Resident Evil 4 VR Mode (PSVR2), Pragmata, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective (Switch, PS, Xbox, Steam), Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy (Switch, PS, Xbox, Windows, Steam), Capcom ID, Exoprimal (Xbox, Windows, PS, Steam), Dragon’s Dogma 2 (PS5, Xbox, Steam)
Capcom Town. IGN reports that Capcom has launched a website for its 40th anniversary where you can play retro titles like Mega Man, Mega Man 2, Street Fighter 2, Final Fight, and Mega Man X for free. The site will also features company bios, interview snippets, behind the scenes content, and digital merch items.
Grimace’s Birthday. IGN reports that McDonald’s, in conjunction with developer Krool Toys, has released a Game Boy Color compatible game about Grimace. The game can be played on its own website, as well as a ROM file.
Hermit and Pig. IGN reports that a trailer for the PC-based quirky turn-based RPG about foraging, fending off forest critters, and overcoming personal shortcomings to solve a sinister corporate plot.
Honor Among Thieves. Final revenue total for the film’s theatrical release was $208M worldwide against a $150M production budget.
Lorcana. Polygon reports that Upper Deck has filed a lawsuit against Ravensburger, alleging that the lead designer of the game stole their intellectual property and violated a contract agreement. They are asking for an injunction to halt the game’s release, in addition to other forms of relief.
Sea of Thieves. Polygon reports that the Monkey Island DLC was made without consulting Ron Gilbert (original head developer and writer for the series).
Vampire Survivors. IGN reports that Poncle has released another free update to the indie hit. The update includes a new stage, a randomizer that has Twitch chat integration, three new relics, a new pickup item, and a new form for Yatta Cavallo (the panda).
